The Imagined Sky Above

This ink drawing is a study of the fifteenth century painting ‘Assumption of the Virgin’ by Francesco Botticini. It is part of my quarentine series investigating the human experience of looking up, and how we project our systems of belief onto the sky. I don’t see the sky as Bottinici did – as part of a complex religious structure – but instead see the sky as a gateway upwards and outwards, to the unknown.
